Yarn Darlin’ is a one woman operation currently based out of Albuquerque, NM. It’s owned and operated by a crocheting, dancing, arts and crafts making gal named Christiana. That would be me. I’m that gal. I’m soley responsible for designing, making, packing, shipping, updating, blog writing, facebooking, tweeting, and every other little aspect to operating YarnDarlin’, and I do it all in a pair of heels and red lipstick. Well, more like ballet flats and a comfy hoodie, but a girl can dream.
Yarn Darlin’ was birthed out of my desire to work as an artist and maker. I’ve always loved to make things, I’ve been doing it all of my life. My dear Granny taught me how to crochet when I was about 7-years-old, and I’ve been hooked ever since! I had the idea for YarnDarlin’ in my early twenties. It took me six years of testing and experimenting before I actually decided to make it a reality. I tested out craft fairs and the market on etsy. I even got a business license under another name as kind of a “tester” business, with the intention of changing the name if I decided it would work out. Why? Because I wanted to focus on the local community where I was living at the time and chose a name that would encourage local support. I’ve since moved to a new state and had to close the business for that very reason. But, now that I have new opportunities, YarnDarlin’ can finally become a reality!
Everything you see in my store was created by me personally. I love crocheting with cotton, so you’ll see that my store is often stocked with fresh designs featuring both organic cotton and conventional cotton. I prefer to use organic cotton in most things (i.e. earwarmers, capelets, neckwarmers, fingerless gloves, etc.), but my handmade afghans feature conventional cotton because of the ease of machine washing.
